CU Innovation Hub Signs Technology Licensing Agreement to Bring Thai Probiotic Technology to Prometa Health Products
Chulalongkorn University, through the Chulalongkorn University Innovation Hub (CU Innovation Hub), signed a research licensing agreement with Greater Pharma Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to transfer probiotic technology developed from locally sourced microbial strains of the Thai population for further development into health products under the Prometa brand.
The signing ceremony was held on 16 July 2026 at Chamchuri Square, Chulalongkorn University, with Professor Rungsun Rerknimitr, M.D., Vice President of Chulalongkorn University; Professor Dr. Somying Tumwasorn, Principal Investigator; and Mr. Chernporn Tengamnuay , Managing Director of Greater Pharma Manufacturing Co., Ltd., participating in the signing ceremony.
The probiotic technology transferred through this agreement was developed from locally sourced microbial strains of the Thai population, with the aim of supporting a healthy balance of gut microorganisms. The technology also has the potential to support metabolic health, particularly in areas related to overweight, insulin resistance, high blood lipid levels, and fatty liver. The technology is the result of continuous research and development by researchers at Chulalongkorn University.
This collaboration highlights the role of CU Innovation Hub in connecting research with industry through intellectual property management, technology transfer, and strategic partnerships. The initiative aims to accelerate the transition of research from the laboratory to real-world applications, create added economic value, and contribute to the development of Thailand’s health industry.
The technology transfer marks another important step in advancing the concept of “Research to Impact” by translating knowledge and research from Chulalongkorn University into products with the potential to create meaningful value for society, while supporting Thailand’s transition toward a sustainable innovation-driven economy.
