CU Innovation Hub, in collaboration with Chulalongkorn University and the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), organized “IP Forward 2026: IP Protection Conference – Mastery and Patent Drafting” on 3–4 August 2026 at Chula Startup Square, 11th Floor, Chamchuri Square, to strengthen knowledge and practical skills in intellectual property protection and support researchers and innovators in developing their research toward effective patent applications.
The two-day program brought together researchers, students, and interested participants from Chulalongkorn University, with sessions covering key aspects of intellectual property, from the fundamentals of IP and research management to patent searching, novelty assessment, and patent application drafting.
3 August | Fundamentals & Search Strategies
The first day focused on building a strong foundation in intellectual property and research management strategies, followed by a practical workshop on patent searching using real-world tools. Participants learned how to systematically search for and assess relevant patent information related to their own research and innovations.
4 August | Draft with Precision, Consult with Experts
The second day focused on Patent Drafting, with participants learning about the structure and principles of writing clear and comprehensive patent claims. The program also featured a Specialized Drafting Workshop, providing opportunities for participants to consult directly with patent examiners and intellectual property experts from the Department of Intellectual Property on an individual basis to refine their patent application drafts.
Throughout the program, participants gained practical experience beyond theoretical knowledge by developing their own First Draft patent applications and receiving direct feedback from experts. These consultations helped participants improve their drafts and reduce potential errors in the patent application process.
The IP Forward 2026: IP Protection Conference – Mastery and Patent Drafting reflects the importance of strengthening intellectual property capabilities alongside research and innovation development, enabling research outcomes to progress from the laboratory toward effective protection and practical utilization.
